Talking to dozens of parents over the past few weeks, I listened to various stories of success , happy moments, frustrations and challenging times. One of the most common conversations usually circles around the phrase “ I just don’t understand why they just won’t do it.” This phrase doesn’t relate to children only, but general frustrations over lack of motivation from household members, coworkers, etc. Many around the world are finding it difficult to do the things they need to do, children included. But many do not understand what motivation is and how to create it. By understanding the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic (internal and external) motivation, you can learn to understand motivation, and create ways to help your kids and your family get done the things they need, weather it be because they want to or because they want the reward that comes with it.
