How to Talk To Your Kids About Type 1 Diabetes

What is Type 1 diabetes? According to the Mayo Clinic, Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Diabetes may affect your child directly or they may have a family member or friend who is diagnosed. Being diagnosed with a life threatening condition can be scary to children. There are ways that you can approach the subject in an informative, age appropriate manner.
