Spring Holidays at Home
This year our religious holidays will look very different then in years past. Whether you celebrate Passover, Easter or Ramadan we won’t be gathering together with our extended families. I am so thankful that we live in a generation that we can worship online. Whether you attend a church, mosque or a synagogue check out services online. But what else can you do? I’ve put together some other activities you can do as a family.
Passover – A Virtual Seder. Even if it is a partial gathering, try to connect electronically through Facetime or Zoom.
Arts and Crafts for Passover - https://www.kveller.com/passover-crafting/
How about retell the story of the Passover story with these finger puppets https://toriavey.com/home-garden/passover-finger-puppets-the-ten-plagues/
Easter – No Easter Egg Hunts this year but check this out: Children color or decorate the paper eggs however they wish. Then, families hang the eggs in their front windows or anywhere else for everyone to see. Now when families are out for a walk, they can count how many eggs they can find hanging in the windows.
Have the kids make placemats or get some craft paper in a roll and have the kids make the table cloth. https://www.amazon.com/White-Kraft-Paper-Roll-Inches/dp/B07MCJM6YK/ref=sr_1_17?crid=X98F0EP89T2E&dchild=1&keywords=craft+paper+table+cover&qid=1585933644&sprefix=craft+paper+tabl%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-17
No big dinners this year, but try cooking together! This is the time to maybe try something different, a new side dish or dessert.
This is my dad’s ham glaze, a family favorite!
1 can of whole cranberry ½ teaspoon of ground cloves
1 cup of brown sugar ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
¼ cup of orange juice ¼ teaspoon of allspice
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook ham according to directions. ½ hour before ham is done baste ham with glaze. Continue to coat ham as it cooks.
Here’s a scavenger hunt that incorporates Christ and the Easter story. Looks like a fun activity to do as a family https://feelslikehomeblog.com/2018/03/free-printable-christ-centered-easter-basket-scavenger-hunt/
Ramadan – Here’s a website that has some great arts and crafts and also a yummy treat you can make as a family! https://www.littlewingscreative.com/ramadan-for-kids-activities/
Here is a great list of 30 Days of Good Deeds and most of them are ones we can still do while practicing social distancing https://intheplayroom.co.uk/2015/06/09/30-days-of-good-deeds-for-a-ramadan-jar/
Whatever you celebrate I hope it is filled with love!
