Can you trust an adolescent to social distance?

As restrictions loosen, parents are beginning to think about ways that their children can start interacting safely with their friends. This can be easier when parents can oversee play interactions, such as with younger children. However, adolescents and teens socialize more independently and desire time alone with their friends. Can parents trust that their older children will socially-distance if given some freedom? This NY Times article provides some insight into this topic with some guidance for parents as well.
